About Mary Beth Johnson
There are few areas in life where we feel truly understood and accepted as our whole selves. Therapy can provide an opportunity to be heard and seen, which can help us to understand and accept ourselves. When we improve our relationship with ourselves there is a ripple effect that can be felt in all areas of our lives. Mary Beth approaches therapy as a partnership between client and therapist, collaboratively creating a space for her clients to safely explore past and present experiences. She believes the role of the therapist is to support and hold space for the client to find the answers they search for within themselves and to witness their truth.
As all people have unique backgrounds, Mary Beth draws from a diverse range of therapeutic practices and theories to meet her clients’ needs. She integrates from strengths based, attachment, trauma, feminist, and multicultural theories. As an artist herself, Mary Beth enjoys incorporating arts based interventions to express what we do not have words for. She has experience working with individuals, adolescents, families, and group therapy. She focuses on and has experience treating trauma related symptoms and disorders, anxiety, depression, attachment disruptions, family conflict, survivors of childhood abuse, survivors of sexual assault, and grief. Mary Beth is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. She graduated with her Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a concentration in Trauma and Crisis Intervention.
